wait list process
The Network Office will be maintaining an application wait list for applicants awaiting an intake assessment. Please note that being on the wait list does not guarantee program acceptance.
Applicants can indicate their geographic choices on the application and are placed on the wait list in chronological order. Please note that we will no longer be maintaining 4 separate lists, there will now be only one list and applicants can indicate any number of quadrant choices (including anywhere). If an applicant indicates quadrant choice, they will only be contacted for vacancies within those quadrants. Therefore they should indicate as many quadrants as they are interested in as more flexibility can result in shorter waiting times.
Applications can only be submitted when the wait list is open. The status of the wait lists (open or closed) will be posted on the website www.mentalhealthandjustice.org on Wednesdays at 9:00am. The waitlist will open when there are a total of 15 applicants remaining on the list. It will be open for four hours, 9:00am-1:00pm, and all eligible applications that are sent in during that time will be placed on the list in chronological order.
Referral sources should check the website prior to submitting applications. If the Network Office knows in advance that the wait list will be opening, the voice mail at 416 757 6454 will be changed to indicate such. Please note: If it is unknown whether it will open, the voice mail will not be changed and referrers are responsible for checking the website at the designated time. The wait list may open even if the voicemail does not indicate so.
Applications will be forwarded to the housing providers when a unit is becoming available. Intakes/assessments will be conducted at that time.
Applicants going on the wait list need to have current involvement in the criminal justice system at the time of the application, as well as meeting our other criteria. At the time of intake they will still need to meet our other criteria, including being homeless or at immediate risk of homelessness. Having a shared room in a boarding home or a rooming house is considered to be homeless, but a single room is considered housed.
Referrers or Applicants will be required to communicate changes (i.e. Applicant contact information, housing status changes, etc) to the Network Office. When the application is forwarded to a housing provider, the Network Office will call to communicate this to the referrer who will then be responsible to alert the applicant. Referral sources will be given 3 days to contact the Network Office. If there is no contact after the 3rd day, the application will be withdrawn and the next person on the list will be contacted.
Applicants who decline an offer based on issues that would seriously affect their mental health will be put back on the wait list for the next available unit. Applicants who decline a unit offer for other reasons (i.e. location, etc) will be put back on the list for the next available unit; if they decline the second offer the file will be closed but they can re-apply to the initiative after 6 months if they still meet the criteria.
If you have any questions or concerns, or need any further information, please call the Mental Health and Justice Supportive Housing Network Office at (416) 757 MHJI (6454).
